Kara Kent (Earth name)
History
On Krypton, Zor-El (brother of Jor-El, father of Superman) took his wife Allura and their teenage daughter Kara to the space station Argo. The space station was essentially a city in space, and was a haven for Krypton's elite scientists until it began to malfunction. It had been sabotaged by a sect of Kryptonians that believed that leaving the planet was heresy. Zor-El placed his daughter in the stasis cell and ejected her from the ship before the life support systems failed. The cell was supposed to drift towards Krypton using a homing sensor, but Krypton had already exploded. Kara floated through space, frozen in time, for years, until her cell's sensor detected the Kryptonian tech in Superman's Fortress of Solitude and changed course for Earth. Linda Danvers, the hero known as Supergirl, found the stasis cell embedded in the ice near the Fortress and opened it, awakening Kara. Linda called in Superman to meet the young Kryptonian. Kara was shocked to learn that her infant cousin Kal-El was now older than her and was Earth's greatest hero, Superman. Superman took his cousin in and had her live with his adoptive parents, the Kents. Now calling herself Kara Kent, Kara decided to join her cousin in his quest for justice. Linda (who was being transformed into an Earth-born angel) gave Kara her identity of Supergirl, as she felt that Kara truly deserved the codename. Linda then became the Seraph, and acted as Supergirl’s mentor.
As Supergirl, Kara was an amazing hero, but she seemingly lost her life in the battle with the god-like villain called the Anti-Monitor. He blasted her with cosmic energy and she vanished. However he didn't kill Kara, but instead the blast launched her forwards in time. She emerged as an adult in the future, and after learning that Superman's daughter Cir-El was now Supergirl, took on the new identity of Superwoman.
